Barbara's Blue Kitchen is a slice of life comedy set in a small diner in Watertown, TN.  The action centers around Barbara Jean, the proprietor of Barbara's Blue Kitchen, who is in love with Lombardo, her hairdresser who recently gave her a promise ring.  Her heart and promise ring plans quickly unravel, however, once her sister, Melissa, informs her that she overheard from a friend that Lombardo was going away for the weekend with another woman.  From that point on, Barbara Jean goes head to head with the question, "When is it courageous and when is it just plain crazy to hang on to love?"  As Barbara Jean sorts through her love life and what it means to truly value and take care of herself, the other six characters also embark on their own quirky and sometimes painful journeys.
There's Jeanette, the hapless waitress who has fled an abusive relationship to the safety of her pen pal, Barbara Jean. … There's Miss Tessie, an elderly woman from the Happiness Home who, after losing the love of her life, has decided to eat the rest of her meals at Barbara's Blue Kitchen. … There's Tommy Lee, Barbara Jean's 8 year old nephew, who is recovering from a dog bite and as he recovers, takes refuge under one of the diner tables and finds comfort in a picture of his dad. … There's Miss Morris, a middle-aged nurse who is longing to make a positive difference in the world and, more specifically, in the troubled young life of Tommy Lee. … And finally, there's Lombardo, who at long last lays claim to his deep and true love for Barbara Jean.
All of the journeys are peppered with intermittent comments from the local radio station disc jockey, as well as twelve songs, and a large dose of funny, goofy, heartbreaking humanity.
